Deadline for submitting applications to the 2010 WIT Awards:30 April 2010
All are invited to nominate themselves or others they know. Nominations are now accepted through on-line application through our website (link to application page)
1- Requirement for Nomination
To qualify, Nominees:
a. Can nominate themselves or be nominated by a third party / another person
b. Must be Lebanese; or non-Lebanese living in Lebanon and working for a company / association working in Lebanon
c. Must be an individual who shows deep respect for the value of individuals, regardless of background and culture
d. Must apply online for one of the 3 awards
e. Must provide:
- A curriculum vita or resume of the nominated individual
- Letter or Statement describing the individual record
2- In this context WIT awards three prizes/categories:
a - Women Contribution to ICT
Definition:
This is bestowed on a successful woman who has achieved an outstanding entrepreneur or leadership position in the ICT industry.
Selection Criteria:
The award recipient must exhibit leadership spirit and must have contributed to the advancement of the ICT field in Lebanon. Her achievements must be impressive enough to inspire the aspirations of thousands of others who are looking
for a role model to emulate. The award recipient can be an entrepreneur or a CEO / Managing Director of a listed company.
b - Women Empowerment through ICT
Definition:
This is bestowed on a man or woman who has used ICT to empower women.
Socio-Economic empowerment is seen in terms of:
overcoming marginalization, oppressive social norms, and inadequate support and responsibility from governments in terms of access & rights to resources & making sound decisions; offering women choice and opportunity, encouraging women to fulfill their potentials; giving voice and capability to counter their seeming powerlessness.
ICT-related development is defined not only as it relates to income or material deprivation but as resolving basic needs of the community and promoting social networking through ICT intervention.
Selection Criteria:
The recipient would have voluntarily, over a period of time, empowered other women using ICT as a tool;
- Empowered women in the ICT field
- Helped other women and girls recognize their potential in the science, technology, engineering or mathematics fields;
- Implemented and fosters structured programs for women and girls to gain skills, competence and confidence in their chosen field;
- etc.
c - Innovation in ICT
Definition:
This award is bestowed on an individual, non-listed, or newly established SME with emerging business that applies new technologies, or caters to customer needs through applications of innovative processes, market research, brand development,
visionary leadership, etc., which are rising fast or making a big impact in the business world in recent years and are now in great demand in local and/or overseas markets.
Selection Criteria:
Nominees must be either the intellectual property owner of its product innovations, the legitimate promoter of a business model that presents a new business concept or the bold creator of the new market or prototype.
Objective of the Awards
Shed the light and recognize the important roles that women play in society. Both women who worked in the home as well as those who had jobs were contributing and serving a crucial function in Lebanese society. Shed the light and recognize the important role that ICT plays in development, being a tool that provides equal opportunities for all, and can be effectively used to promote socio-economical empowerment.

Other objectives are to:
- Recognize gender and ICT initiatives locally and provide further impetus for others to mainstream gender in the field of ICTs for women's empowerment, and therefore support our advocacy work;
- Recognize individual achievements of women in ICT
- Provide a much-needed venue to recognize community-based or small-scale initiatives designed and implemented by women and women's organizations/networks; while providing recognition to larger scale but cost-effective multi-stakeholder initiatives; - Provide much needed opportunities to develop new collaborations/partnerships and opportunities for up - scaling small-scale and community-based initiatives.

The Jury
A jury of peers reviews the applications and deliberates on the basis of the documents submitted. The jury is formed of 5 individuals working in the ICT field. 3 out of the 5 jury members are WIT members
