Nationality

The Lebanese law regulating nationality violates women rights and gender equality principles.

It gives affiliation mainly to the father in all cases and deprives Lebanese women of the right to give their "identity" to their children (except in very odd and special cases).

	Nationality

The Lebanese laws concerning nationality
deprive the Lebanese mothers of their basic rights as citizens. And the legislation concerning nationality discriminates not only between husbands and wives, mothers and fathers but also between mothers lebanese by origin and foreign naturalized mothers.
Lebanese laws give nationality by affiliation to the father.
A child born from a Lebanese father is deemed Lebanese no matter where he (she) was born.Moreover a child born from unknown father but a Lebanese mother, a fatherless child or an abandoned child from unknown father and mother born in Lebanon is also considered as Lebanese citizen according to artice1 of nationality law issued in 1920.
A foreign mother who has acquired the Lebanese nationality by her marriage
can also give this nationality to her children after the death of her foreign spouse in a second marriage. But the Lebanese mother cannot grant her nationality to her children because the Lebanese nationality law restricts consanguinity to the father. Unless its an illegitimate child from unknown father or legitimate one from dead father.
The illegitimate child

acquires his father nationality by affiliation or his mothers if this affiliation could not be proved to the father first or if the foreign father dies before the child majority.
Naturalized foreign spouse
may keep her acquired lebanese nationality after the death of her foreign husband and may grant it to her minor children from a foreign father while the law deprives this right from the Lebanese women by origin.
Equality between children of foreign mothers and Lebanese mothers is totally unfair.
